A little spontaneity.
First date ideas.
A first date doesn’t need a grand gesture. Pick somewhere public, leave room to talk, and start with one simple plan you both feel comfortable with.
Create a dateThree low-pressure places to start
Coffee, with an optional walk
Meet at a café with enough space to hear each other. Agree on a short coffee first; if you both want more time, take a walk nearby. Keeping the second stop optional avoids committing to a whole evening.
A daytime park or waterfront stroll
Choose a familiar, busy public path and a clear meeting point. Keep the route short, check the weather, and suggest a nearby indoor café as a backup. Skip isolated trails when you’re meeting someone new.
A gallery and a conversation
Pick a small gallery or museum you both find interesting. The exhibits give you something to talk about without needing a script. Check ticket prices and opening hours together before committing.
Make the plan comfortable for both of you
- Suggest two options and ask which sounds better. Check dietary needs or accessibility requirements rather than assuming.
- Agree on a budget and a rough end time. A coffee or one activity can be the whole date; extending it is optional.
- Meet in public, arrange your own transport, and let someone you trust know your plan.
- Choose a place where conversation is easy. Save a long film or a loud show for when you know each other better.
Turn your first date idea into a plan
In Shake Dates, choose your budget, time of day, activity preferences, and number of stops. Start with a short itinerary and review the venues together. You can enter a city in Preferences without sharing your device’s location.
Confirm current prices, availability, and opening hours with the venue before you head out.
